Becoming a Non-smoker
Smoking cessation is not just quitting cigarettes or nicotine its also returning to the original happy and healthy state!
Research comparing many different studies of hypnotherapy has shown that on average smokers are over five times more likely to break the habit with hypnosis than by willpower alone. Hypnotherapy in general is proven to be more than twice as effective compared with nicotine gum.
If you really want to stop smoking, then one session of hypnotherapy could be all you need.
Smoking and other addictions are some of the most difficult problems that health and mental health professionals treat. A review of the smoking cessation literature reveals an average success rate of about 25% on six– to twelve-month follow-ups with smokers. (Hammond, 1990: 407).
Evidence-based approaches to smoking cessation are multi-modal (multi-dimensional, broad-spectrum, multi-factor, technically eclectic, etc.). A range of different therapies is combined into a whole package that attempts to attack the problem on many different levels.
Treatments that include hypnosis weigh up favorably in efficacy and efficiency when compared with other methods. The smoking cessation sessions accommodate the differing needs, lifestyles, and personalities of the clients. It would mostly include,
Self-monitoring and recording of triggers, cognition, behaviour, and emotion.
Stimulus control
Psycho-education
Review motivations
Mindfulness and Acceptance
Habit reversal
Aversion therapy
Cognitive restructuring of beliefs about smoking
Rapid relaxation training for stress management.
Post-hypnotic suggestion, e.g., direct suggestion.
Overt and covert rehearsal of coping skills, i.e., mentally rehearsing assertive, non-smoking behaviour
in relation to key triggers, and situations to prevent relapse.
Hypnotic desensitisation for anticipatory withdrawal anxiety.
Quitting ceremony.
Post-session support materials – Ego Strengthening Self Hypnosis, etc
Even though hypnotherapy is proven to be modestly effective, the motivation of the client is an important factor in the outcome. Hence, those clients, who decide for themselves that they really want and need to stop are likely to do better than those who are urged by someone else, such as their doctor or partner. For the same reason, a detailed motivation level assessment would be done prior to the initial session. Typically smoking cession sessions are conducted in four parts. The pre-session assessment, the initial session(60 to 90 min) The main session spanning 2 to 3 hrs, and then 1 follow up session.
The best part about my sessions is, that it is individually crafted as per your need and motivation. We will put strategies into place to ensure you are empowered to create lasting change.
